“Jana and Veronika a the Pushkin Theater”
We shot this at the Pushkin Theatre, Veronika and her mother, Jana, love to do almost everything together. They go shopping, to parties and to cultural events such as the theatre. They often dress in matching clothes for these events. Veronika is lucky to be able to have someone to look up to, learn from, and imitate.
"Lisa Inside Her Father's Antique Store"
I made this photograph of Liza in her father’s antique store. Liza is a dancer and loves rock and roll and swing. It was very hard for her to keep still during our photo session.
"Petr and Boris on Stage"
The brothers both play the piano. There was a bit of a struggle to decide who would be the one to sit at the piano. They certainly didn’t want to play a duet.
"Arina in Her Garage"
Arina is standing in front of her father’s vintage car collection. She told me beforehand she wanted to look like Catherine Deneuve. As the photo shoot progressed, we got to talking about Isadora Duncan, and I found myself amazed at how much this generation knows about the all the famous movie stars of the past.
“Sonia Sitting on the Bear Rug”
My initial idea was to photograph Sonia as Frieda Kahlo because of her bushy eyebrows and the shape of her face. Sonia is a very shy girl, and it took a while to convince her to wear this floaty white dress. I liked the way her refined and soft appearance contrasted with the wild looking bear rug.
“Sofia Sitting on a Flower Bed”
The sisters have their own kitchen where they can entertain their guests. After sharing a wonderful cup of tea with biscuits with me, younger sister invited me into her room and primly sat on her daybed and allowed me to take her portrait.
"Uma Descending from the Staircase"
Uma is descending the formal staircase in her father’s restaurant, a most prestigous restaurant favored by Moscow’s elite.
"Liza, Katya and Sofia in Their Mother's Jewelry Store"
Liza, Katya, and Sofia are sisters. Although I had explained to their mother what my project was about and what age-group I wanted to photograph, she still insisted in bringing the youngest girl to the shoot despite my telling her that she was too young. After I placed the two older sisters in position, their mother thought that the middle of the image looked too empty and proposed to put the youngest in the middle. Stage mothers!
"Alisia in Her Mother's Fur Store"
Alissa is a professional model, she has posed for several big fashion campaigns, and her portraits were displayed all across Moscow’s city center and shopping districts. On our photo shoot, she felt the pressure of great expectations. It was a late Sunday afternoon, and after posing for a while, Alissa just sat down and burst into tears.
These are the pictures from photographer Anna Skladmann‘s portrait project, “Little Adults,” that did not make it into our print layout, for no other reason than we didn’t, unfortunately, have the space to run them. The images are accompanied by anecdotes, in Anna’s own words, of what transpired at each of the shoots and how she was able to capture these precise moments in time.
